“500 pen & ink drawings per semester!” Four semesters – 2000 drawings! That’s how Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) transformed beginning students into fashion illustrators. Since I rode the NY subway system for 3-hours per day to attend FIT, I had “models” sitting right across from me. I learned to draw everything . . . purses, shoes, boots, slouchy sweaters, the drape of fabrics, heads with hats, hands, hair, big and small noses! Bless those gracious subway riders. They rarely spoke to me, but if they saw me drawing them, they’d hold their positions. And that’s why I know how to draw and paint people and all the things they wear. Thank you, subway people. Thank you, FIT.
